Bihar Election 2025: Surajbhan Singh Stays with RLJP, RJD Merger Plans Stall

In the run-up to the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, speculation had been strong that influential leader Surajbhan Singh, along with his wife Veena Singh and brother Chandan Singh, might join RJD. All three are former MPs currently part of Pashupati Kumar Paras’ RLJP. Reports suggested Tejashwi Yadav might personally induct Surajbhan, but the merger did not happen.

Meanwhile, RLJP’s proposed merger with JDU also faced resistance. In a meeting on October 12, party leaders, including Paras and Surajbhan, opposed merging with RJD, citing concerns over symbol recognition and seat-sharing disputes. RLJP now plans to contest all 243 Bihar Assembly seats, either independently or strategically in coordination with RJD to challenge Chirag Paswan’s LJP.

RJD, on the other hand, is actively working to attract the Bhumihar vote. This week, two Bhumihar leaders joined RJD, strengthening its strategy ahead of the elections. With caste politics in Bihar playing a decisive role, the upcoming elections in the Ganga-Sone belt will see intense competition across key constituencies like Bhojpur, Rohtas, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Begusarai, Samastipur, and Madhubani.
